Universal Wiring
Over the years aftermarket universal wiring has been the option for connecting the tow bar electrics
However there are certain limitations to them. You have to consider these against any cost saving.
Fitting universal wiring requires knowledge about the vehicle it is being fitted to.
There are 2 kit types to use
Basic Kit
This kit draws power from the vehicle's own lighting circuit.
Bypass Kit
This kit draws power from the vehicle's own lighting circuit.
Further Things to Consider
Universal wiring kits are needed to connect the tow bar electrics to the car electrical system.
Trailer Stability Control
Most modern vehicles have a trailer stability control programme which is an addition to the cars regular stability control system. Using universal wiring may not activate this.
Vehicle Warranty
If your car is under a warranty, most warranties will say that any tow bar fitting must have specific wiring equivalent to the manufacturers wiring in the vehicle.
We recommend you fit dedicated electrics to your vehicle if it is in warranty.
